Spicy Indian style mutton curry or simple lamb gravy is very simple to make and it uses very basic ingredients but it is is really very yummy to taste. I love these kind of dark colour curries with a thin layer of oil floating on the top. So yummy to taste and so easy to make. Ingredients for Simple Indian Mutton Curry:
- Mutton / Lamb – 500 grams
- Oil – 4 tblspn
- Onion – 2 large sliced thinly
- Tomatoes – 2 large sliced thinly
- Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
- Green Chillies – 3 slit
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder – 2 tbsp (if using normal chilli powder, use less)
- Coriander Powder – 2 tbsp
- Garam Masala Powder – 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Fresh Coconut – 3/4 cup grated
- Water as needed
- Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped
Recipe Steps for Simple Mutton Curry
- Dry roast grated coconut till it becomes brown.
- Grind it to fine paste and keep it aside
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add chopped onions.
- Cook till they become translucent or start becoming light brown.
- Add curry leaves and green chili. Let them cook till onions become good golden brown.
- Add Ginger Garlic. Cook till raw smell goes away or 30-40 seconds.
- Add tomatoes. Cook the tomatoes are well cooked that means tomatoes become mushy.
- Add in all the powdered spices that means red chili powder coriander powder turmeric powder garam masala as well as salt.
- Add a small amount of water about three spoon to prevent burning now give it a mix. Cook for one to two minutes or till it forms like a paste or oil start separating.
- Add washed mutton pieces.
- Let mutton cook on high medium or medium flame till the mutton pieces start becoming light brown or for few minutes for 4 to 5 minutes and in between keep is stirring and keep tossing the mutton pieces to prevent burning.
- Add some water in mutton.
- Close the cooker turn the flame to low and wait for four whistles.
- After four whistles allow the steam to settle down naturally.
- Open Cooker and switch on the flame turn the flame to low medium or medium.
- Add our grinded coconut paste into mutton.
- Give it a mix after mixing let mutton curry cook further for five to eight minutes depending on your burner flame
- Stir couple of times in between and if needed add more water as per your gravy requirement
- Add fresh Coriander leaves and give it a good mix. Switch off the flame.
- Transfer Simple Indian mutton curry to the serving dish.
Detailed Recipe Steps for Simple Mutton Curry with Pictures
- Take a pan and let it heat.
- Once heated add grated coconut once it becomes brown switch off the flame.
- Add this to a mixer grinder
- Add some amount of water and grind it to fine paste.
- After grinding keep it aside (I have added here little more amount of water what was required but that’s fine)
